THE COUNSEL CHURCHES AND THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF THE APOCALYPSE
The message of the Apocalypse was
encouragement to resist against the
pressure from the cults of the Roman
Gods on the Christians. By writing the
Apocalypse Saint John wanted to magnify
the Christian martyrs and reinforce the
Christian faith. To teach this
Apocalypse he choose seven churches in
Western Turkey and by doing this he gave
to these communities a mysterious and
Significant imprint. Pergamum, Thyatira,
Smyrna, Sardes, Philadelphia, Laodicea
and Ephesus are the communities of the Apocalypse. The Emperor Constantine the Great
declared the Christian religion over to
a state religion and Constantinople was
made the capitol of the Roman Empire.
Therefore the Byzantine or the Eastern
Roman Empire succeeded on to the Roman
Empire. Many themes which are considered
today as the principles of Christians
religion were discussed in seven
councils. These were internal
discussions in the church and lasted
many centuries. Four of these councils
took place in Istanbul, two in Nicea,
and one in Ephesus.
